Paintball markers or paintball guns are the weapons used to mark with paint your opposite players. The paintball is ejected out of the gun using carbon dioxide at a speed of 300 feet per second. This speed of the paintball, will produce the breaking of it as soon as it hits a target. Safety is always recommended when using paintball guns. If not safety equipment is used it will only cause mild bruising. However, despite the amount of pain you can endure NEVER play without safety gear. You can end not only with bruises, but also blind because of the paint and a shot in your face. That's why masks were invented.
There are four types of paintball guns:
The classification is determined based on their firing modes.
At first all guns were pump action. Much like a pump shotgun, they require the person to pull back the bolt and put the ball in front of it to then manually push forward the bolt and position the paintball for firing. Suffice to say that this was a slow process that took much of the game's actual surprise and rush. But on the other hand it is great to develop skills, and some people love it, because you'll be aware of how each shot counts.
Semi-automatic guns are guns that fire a single shot. When you shoot, the bolt moves back to load a new paintball for the next shot. This has increased firing rate and gives a bit of extra accuracy.
Fully automatic guns are the ones that shoot paintballs as long as the trigger is pulled. These types of guns are great for retreat and covering fire. The first automatic gun was the Tippman SMG.
The ramping-mode guns are a variation of automatic guns that are safer: they only shoot 15 shots per second. The top is put because firing more can actually harm the other players.
When deciding for a gun to use you should choose based on the type of situations you will use it. Pump guns require stealth and skill – I think this is better used by advanced players-, Semi automatic guns are for player who are starting out and for general use, and the automatic guns are better used by infantry and heavy attacking a base. Of course you can choose the one you find most interesting and build your skills on it.
